Pure Obsessional OCD, or Pure O is a disorder that is very different from a regular OCD diagnosis. It is characterized by persistent obsessive thoughts that are unwanted but without any subsequent compulsions involved. The thoughts that occur with Pure Obsessional OCD are usually about one specific thing or action such as images of hurting someone or one’s self, thinking that one has acted inappropriately in some way toward someone else, thinking about breathing, heart rate, walking rhythm, etc. These thoughts can bring anxiety and great distress in many individuals and is best treated through cognitive-behavioral therapy provided by a licensed psychologist. When trying to cope with this disorder, it is often helpful to think about what makes these thoughts so uncomfortable and attempt to try and come to terms with them rather than resist them. This will help lower the level of anxiety you may feel and will bring a greater sense of control over your thoughts and emotions. If you feel that you are experiencing these symptoms, make a call to Harper Psychological to speak to someone about your options to broaden your knowledge on the disorder and to receive the help you need. CTA MFP png
