Addressing and dealing with grief can be one of the most difficult and emotionally trying processes one can go through. Losing a loved one or even someone you did not know very personally, can be extremely challenging and confusing. This process is very individualized as people experience it and deal with it in many different ways for many different time spans. Symptoms of grief appear to be very similar to those of depression, however, they are not the same. Greif is characterized by loss of sleep, crying often, headaches, loss of appetite and other aches and pains. Unlike depression, grief is not a documented psychological disorder but still requires monitoring and care during the time it is present. Many people find that they cannot face grief and handle it properly on their own, which is where reaching out for help through different resources is imperative to recovery and peace of mind. One common and extremely beneficial way of dealing with grief is joining a group of others who are dealing with grief as well. These group sessions are usually led by a counselor or someone similar and provide a support system for people going through the same thing and not feeling alone. There are many books that guide the reader through the different steps or stages of grief and can bring perspective on what is going on in your life. Simply having the comfort of someone to talk about these feelings with is extremely helpful and Harper Psychological practices many techniques that address this issue. However, it is always important to decide which route is best for you to recover during this difficult period in your life.
