Finding a therapist

Making the decision to seek out mental health treatment can be a scary time.  You may feel already burdened by the symptoms you are experiencing (depression, anxiety, adjustment issues) and to begin the search to “see someone” may feel overwhelming.  Don’t give up.  Consider the following before beginning your search for a provider:

-Do you prefer a psychologist,  psychiatrist, social worker, life coach or marriage and family therapist?

-What insurance benefits do you have, do you have mental health coverage?

-Do you have out of network mental health benefits?

-What providers accept your insurance in your area?

-What is your copay for mental health benefits?

-What symptoms are you experiencing?

-Which providers will treat your symptoms?

-Have you had a full physical from your Primary Care doctor to rule out any medical issues that may be causing your mental health symptoms?

Also remember that you are not alone.  Every year millions of people make the decision that they need a little to a lot of help and contact a provider for mental health services.  Race, cultural affiliations, gender, economic status, education level, none of these things ensure we are immune to needing mental health services.  Everyone experiences a crisis at some point in their lives; therapy can help you adjust and move forward faster so you can get on with your life.  Give Sara Czubak, at Harper Psychological a call.  She can help you decide if Harper Psychological is the right fit for you and if not, she may be able to refer you to the provider that can.
